The Structural Section's goal is to provide quality service through inspections and plans review of construction projects in a manner that is comprehensive, effective, knowledgeable and friendly customer service to the community and the construction industry. The Structural Section will partner with the other disciplines to promote safety in the construction environmental by ensuring all building developments, constructions and renovations are in compliance with the City’s Land Development Code, Code of Ordinances and Florida Building Code.
Structural permits required
As per Florida Building Code, any owner or authorized agent (licensed contractor) who intends to construct, enlarge, alter, repair, move, remove or demolish any building, structure, or any part thereof; or change the Occupancy of a building or structure from one Use Group to another which is regulated by this Code, shall first make application for permit to the Building Division to obtain the required permits.
Because of the extension of the Florida Building Code about the permitting process, we encourage residents and licensed contractors to call first the Structural Section for information before beginning any construction project. We will assist you with the permitting process
Work commencing before permit issuance. Work started without permit shall be double fee plus a fine of $200.00
The inspection request shall be made to the Building Division office at least one day prior to the required inspection and shall provide reasonable time for such inspections to be made. Inspections shall be made not later than the following workday after the day of the request for inspection when a request is made prior to 3:00 p.m.
For inspection time, you should contact the inspectors the day of the inspection from 7:00 a.m. to 8:00 a.m.
Inspections are performed from 8 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., Monday through Thursday.
The day of the inspection, permit card and approved set of plans shall be available to the inspectors.
For roofing inspections, an OSHA approved ladder must be set and ready to the inspectors.
