  • November: City Commission approved the Fifth Amendment to the Miramar Town Center Development Agreement, which extended the development deadline for the undeveloped Block 2 property to September 30, 2017.  This additional time will be utilized by Rock-Kim to analyze the site to arrive at a viable development plan and work towards implementing the suggestions contained in the Town Center Assessment Report. 
  • November: City Commission approved the Termination of the Retail Unit Purchase & Sale Agreement between the City and Rock-Kim, which allows the City retain ownership of a 14,000 square foot space on the first floor of the police headquarters building.         
  • September: Police headquarters building received the U.S. Green Building Council’s high distinction of Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Gold certification. 
  • June: Ribbon cutting and grand opening ceremony was held for the newly constructed Miramar police headquarters. 
  • May: Commission Workshop held to discuss the findings and recommendations of the Miramar Town Center Assessment Report and to obtain Commission direction regarding the future of Block 2 and the future use of the 14,000 square foot retail unit space on the first floor of the police headquarters building. 
  • April: Miramar Town Center Assessment Report completed by experts and attested that Town Center has the potential to become a truly viable mixed-use center that serves as the City’s “downtown” and included several recommendations in order to achieve the vision.     
  • January: The City retains development, retail and economic experts to evaluate the development and retail recruitment strategies of Town Center in order to ensure the long-term sustainability and success of the project.
