2. Where was the force main break located?

The Force Main break occurred on Old Miramar Parkway, adjacent to the canal located at SW 132^nd Avenue.  

3. What canals were directly impacted by the force main break?

The canal located on SW 132^nd Avenue was directly impacted and the canal on SW 130^th Avenue was indirectly impacted.

4. When did the Utilities Department notify the Florida Department of Environmental Protection of the spill?

The City Utilities Department notified the Florida Department of Environmental Protection (FDEP) on September 11, 2017. 

5. What tests have been completed to date?

The Utilities Department conducted fecal testing of the canal located on SW 132^nd Avenue until the fecal counts achieved less than 800 Colonies per 100 ML.  The Utilities Department also conducted bacteriological testing on domestic water wells in the general area of the force main break. 

6. Where does the wastewater flow originate within the City?

The 16-inch force main located along Old Miramar Parkway transmits flow from east Miramar to west Miramar and ultimately to the Wastewater Reclamation Facility.  There are numerous subdivisions that manifold into the force main.

7. Where does the flow ultimately end up?

The flow eventually goes to the Wastewater Reclamation Facility located at 13900 Pembroke Road. 

8. What is the plan to deal with the ponds located on private properties within the general area?

Residents that wish to have their private ponds tested, can contact the City via the 602-HELP line and staff will meet the property owner and coordinate specific testing of the ponds. 

9. What is the City going to do if private wells test positive?

With the property owner’s permission, the city will disinfect the well which will require the system to be offline for a period of 12-hours.  After the 12-hour period, the line will be flushed and retested.  The test will require a 24-hour period to report the results and to assure the well is disinfected and clear. 

10. Why were the rest of Country Club Ranches not notified?

The City Utilities Department notified the property owners along the SW 132^nd Avenue canal and the property owners along the SW 130^th Avenue canal because they were directly impacted by the force main break.

11. Who owns the Gas line that runs on the City’s right-away?

Florida City Gas.  The pipeline carries natural gas.
